Eduard Morrel - Vinyes del Terrer, Vila-seca, Catalunya
The Morell family vineyards consist of nine parcels on the outskirts of Tarragona a mere 2km from the Mediterranean Sea and 20m above sea level.
They are planted on the areas marine fossil rich soil called lumaquel.la. Viticulture is sustainable, yields are very low and fermentations are spontaneous from indigenous yeasts.
The sense of place evoked by a combination of the high levels of sunshine, the influence of the nearby Mediterranean Sea and the unique lumaquel.la soil led to the name Vinyes del Terrer - Vineyards of the Land.
Tasting: From vineyards just 5kms from the Mediterranean, the effect of the sea on viticulture in this part of Catalunya is unmistakable. Breezy, concentrated fruit, kiwi, lime and apple. It has body and texture, but with a good line of acidity to keep it fresh and alive.
