La Trompa 2021

Tasting: Plummy cranberry cocktail that’s so inviting. First scent out of the gate is smoked salt rapidly followed by raspberries, watermelon, strawberries, and lemon zest. Sipping and again there is that delicious smoke, raspberries, watermelon, young strawberries, a tangy citrus squirt, and a whole wild blackberry. Also a shake of salt and white pepper that balances out this refreshing and crisp summer lightly chilled red happiness.

Wanted Sotillo Garnacha 2021

Succés El Prat 2020

Organic. 100% Macabeu. One hectare, 55 year-old bush-trained plantation of Macabeu in Cabra del Camp, Albert Gutiérrez’ ancestral village. (His family has been there for over 800 years; he’s a fifth-generation vinegrower). 500m elevation on clay soils, at a much higher elevation than much of the generic Macabeu that’s grown for industrial Cava. This Macabeu is macerated on skins and whole clusters for three days, finishing fermentation in inox tank. It rests in tank for three-four months before bottling, then is kept in bottle to cohere for another two-three months before release. Unfined, unfiltered, zero SO2 added. A Conca de Barberà Macabeu with a mineral spine, extravagant spice aromas, and no sense of flabbiness or haziness.

Señora Vale 2020

Tasting: Big white wine. Oily mothfeel and heaps of texture. Nose shows freshly sliced apple, white and yellow flowers, pear and green herbs. The palate follows with stone fruit, chalky minerality, butter and apple.

Verdeja le Dicen 2020

Tasting: Verdeja is the local name for old, pre-clonal selection Verdejo in Castronuño and Toro, and while this wine shows plenty of Verdejo character this is clearly not a wine trying to be Verdejo from Rueda! Embracing Verdejo’s tendency towards oxidation, Esteban Celemín makes this wine in the traditional method of this region, with 1-2 days of skin contact and the inclusion of some raisined grapes. The result is a very highly concentrated, but totally dry, expression of Verdejo. This shows appealing ripe green herb (fennel, coriander, celery) notes intermingled with charred lemon notes on the nose, and the palate is dense with plenty of mineral acidity and citrus and stone-fruit notes

Eos de Loxarel Syrah 2018

Tasting: Full Bodied, the fruit and tannins combine well with the acidity and rounds out extremely well. Liquorice, coffee, cocoa and violet with an intriguing cherry aroma. Intense aromas derived from spices, Mediterranean herbs and balsamic notes.
