Toni and Miguel Coca - Coca i Fitó, El Masroig, Catalunya. Coca i Fitó’s main production are the wines Jaspi Negre and Blanc and the flagship single vineyard wines bearing the name of the winery Coca i Fitó. Their vineyards are planted to garnacha - tinta, peluda and blanca - macabeo, syrah and cabernet sauvignon from the D.O.’s of Montsant and Terra Alta, in Catalunya's south.
After practically growing up in vineyards brothers Toni and Miguel started the project together in 2006, they say that right from their first wine the recipe has been simple, low yielding organically farmed vines, soil type and mineral diversity, and using a variety of maturation vessels such as ceramic eggs, amphorae and foudre.
They are also involved in winemaking projects in Ribeira Sacra (Tolo do Xisto), Empordà (Tocat de l’Ala) and Priorat (Samsara).
Tasting: From the Montsant mountains in the far south of Catalunya, the Jaspi Negre is a supple and elegant wine, lower medium bodied, showing delicate bramble fruits, blackberry, blackcurrants, and mulberries. The tannins are polished and smooth to round out a wine of excellent poise.
