Celler Frisach is a small independent winery from Terra Alta, an appellation of Catalonia, that was founded by the brothers Francesc and Joan Ferré. The surname Frisach belongs to their great-grandfather and the name Ca' Frisach still marks the family home on the main street of their village, Corbera d’Ebre.
Everything started 200 years ago when their ancestors farmed and bequeathed this land to sell off their grapes to other winemakers at fair prices after each harvest. It wasn't until 2009 when the brothers decided to take a step forward to find their independence and produce their own wines that properly reflect their proud hometown of Corbera.
Catalonia is well known for its active scene of natural winemakers, and Francesc began with passion and eager dedication. In order to absorb as much knowledge as possible, Francesc travelled across Catalonia and through France, and spent time at natural wine fairs with other winemakers to increase his knowledge and vision of winemaking. He created his own style characterised by minimal intervention and wines that are joyful, dazzling, and playful.
The desire for excellence of these two brothers doesn’t keep them from experimenting; each year sees wines made with less and less intervention, lighter extraction, less power—into a more refined and natural style.
The principal grape in Terra Alta is Garnatxa Blanca (Grenache Blanc), which is used for the famous white wines of the region. Frisach also farms Garnatxa Gris, Garnatxa Fina, Garnatxa Peluda, and Carinyena (Carignan).
