The Recuero family has been dedicated to viticulture and winemaking since 1873. Jesus looks to make authentic wines that respect their origin, the countryside and nature.
Working with indigenous grape varieties in the Gigüela valley such as moravia, pardillo and gordal, the soils of the area, limestone based, very poor in organic matter are perfect for viticulture, along with the cold winters and hot summers that perfectly complement the vines cycle.
Fermentations are carried out in original concrete vessels from 1954, spontaneously by indigenous yeasts as Jesus wishes to “make wines like yesterday”
Tasting: Interesting doesn’t cover this wine well enough! This is a style of pink wine (thought to be the original) created by co-fermenting white and red grapes together. An exquisite, elegant and intoxicating perfume of white fruit, peach, citrus, orange peel, and subtle notes of nuts. On the palate, it is fresh, with marked acidity, white fruit, citrus, and a saline finish with underlying mineral length. Grown organically and bottled un-fined and unfiltered with no added sulphur.
Tasting: Organically grown and no sulphites added. The winery is based in Toledo but Recuero’s Antier project focuses on fruit from the Sierra de Gata in Extremadura. Juicy and expressive, rich red fruit dominates the medium bodied palate, with support from forest herbs and plush bramble fruits.
Tasting: Light and deliciously fresh, this old heritage variety has made a wine redolent of alpine berries and gorse herbs on the nose, its palate is soft, rounded and elegant with flavours of boysenberries, blueberries, and bay leaf
Tasting: Chalk, wet stones, stone fruit and nuts are on the nose of this exceptionally interesting wine, the flor character is more evident on the palate, with a subtle hazelnut character, green apple, nashi pear, chamomile flowers and hay. No added sulphur
Bodega: Bodegas y Viñedos Jesús Recuero
Region: Vino de Mesa - Guzquía and Cáceres
Grape: Ojo de Liebre, Malvar
Aging: Each grape is vinified separately and aged on lees in concrete tanks before being blended and aged under flor in stainless steel for 2 years
Tasting: An exciting and different wine made from an old heritage variety, Pardillo, that is almost extinct. A fleshy mid-weight palate shows carraway, quince, almond and fresh cut herbs. Low in added sulfites and grown organically.
Tasting: Organically grown and no sulphites added. The winery is based in Toledo but Recuero’s Antier project focuses on fruit from the Sierra de Gata in Extremadura. Made with minimal intervention in the winery, un-fined and unfiltered its hazy, raw appearance is complemented by fresh, crisp green apple, with notes of lemon myrtle, bay leaf and green herbs.
