Bodegas Landi are a family business established in 1963 making wine in the only part of D.O. Méntrida that is part of the Sierra de Gredos, they have vineyards planted on the lower scrubland of Méntrida, around 550m and in the rugged hills around El Real de San Vincente at 750-850m above sea level.
Focusing on garnacha, they also have some syrah, all of which is farmed organically and the wines are made with minimal additions in their converted 16th century manor house.
Tasting: Bodegas Jiménez-Landi led by José-Benavides is a family winery that has been farming organically since 1963! The northern most part of Méntrida, where the Jiménez-Landi vineyards are located are part of the coveted Sierra de Gredos mountain range, which has made a very respected name for itself in the production of wines from the Garnacha variety. There aren’t enough superlatives for how delicate, pretty and vibrant this wine is! Highly perfumed on the nose, ripe red cherry, slightly reminiscent of Cherry Ripes, and delicate red berry fruit lead to a palate of thyme accented strawberry fruit, wild forest raspberries, and a delicate herb note. The texture of this wine is extraordinary, it’s so poised, so nervy you just want to hold it in your mouth forever! Truly sensational stuff.
Tasting: José Jiménez-Landi runs the family winery in the northern part of Méntrida which falls inside the Sierra de Gredos mountain range. The fruit comes from vineyards farmed organically, and he only uses large format old oak so the fruit has room to shine through. Ripe red and black fruit, blueberries, raspberries and ripe plums, with aromas of violets and earthy herbs.
